Handy Tips for Using The Hypertherm Plasma Service

Plasma is a collection of charged particles. Plasma contains equal number of positive ions and electrons. In the other word, Plasma can be described as electrically heated gas stream. Copper nozzle is used in the Plasma cutting torches to compress the gas stream with the arc flowing through it. The arc changes itself into a transferred arc when it jumps from the electrode in the torch to a metal. In gist, it is the basic of Flame profile cutting machines.

Plasma Cutting Service Only Used for Conductive Materials
The Plasma service is used only for conductive materials like mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. There are some other metals too like copper, brass, titanium, cast iron; these metals are conductive too but the problem is melting temperature of these alloys make them difficult to cut with a good quality edge.

Components and Features that Makes The Plasma Service Best
The electrode used in Flame profile cutting machines is made of copper. A metal is inserted at the point where the arc is attached. The reason is as copper is melted very fast, facing a trouble is quite possible if the arc is directly attached with the cutter. Tungsten is considered as a useful electrode material so now the days, all the electrodes have a tungsten insert.

Pencil Shaped Electrode Another Style for Plasma Torches
Pencil shaped electrode which is completely made of tungsten is generally used for small Plasma torches. But tungsten has a problem by itself, it burns itself up when used in the presence of oxygen. Engineers have made a solution to this problem. They have invented a material called Hafnium which lasts long in the presence of oxygen.

The engineers emphasizes on using pure oxygen while cutting mild steel or carbon steel. The chemical reaction between oxygen and base metal helps to speed up the cutting process and edge quality is also going to be improved.
